I find it really interesting to see organ donation in the news: I have to admit, a year or so ago, I barely considered organ donation, and didn't really see it as an issue that affected my life. It's not that I'm selfish: it just had never affected my life. However, since finding the site PostPals, and reading so many stories of children who have been affected by organ donation, or unfortuantley the need for more organs, I began thinking about it more and more. Then, when I filled in the forms for my driving license, I ticked the box that said I wanted to join the organ donation register. After reading all those stories, I definitely had to! Sorry for the long comment; and I will be updating my blog soon, Molly - I know I've been a bit useless lately!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting Becky. Before my transplant I'd never considered organ donation either, as like you I didn't see it as an issue that affected me. But after my transplant I joined the register, as did the rest of my family, and I've also persuaded many friends to join too. Now I try to mention it to anyone and everyone else and also follow it in the news.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it when last time I was at hospital B I was chatting to a doctor and we got onto the subject of organ donation. He'd never even thought about becoming an organ donor despite working on a children's transplant ward!
I'm looking forward to reading another post on your blog soon, but don't worry if you're busy.
