A new challenge

I've heard Emma talk about something called 101 in 1001 on her blog before, so I asked her a bit more about what it is and she's explained it in her latest blog post here. You create a list of 101 goals and have 1001 days (which is about 2.75 years) to complete them. It intrigued me, so I visited the website for it - Day Zero. After reading Emma's lists and some other people's lists I found on the Internet I decided that I'm going to give it a go to try to make my life a bit more productive. I started making my list tonight, but am struggling a bit with it because I'm worried about making some goals (such as ones that involve travelling abroad), because I don't know how my health is going to be over the next 2 and a bit years (1001 days). I'm leaving my list for the night now and it currently has 62 goals in it. From reading my blog do you have any suggestions for goals I could set myself? Thanks. Once I've completed my list I'll post it here and then I also hope to blog about each goal that I complete.

  1. Do things that you reeeeally want to do or would love to try. If you set yourself goals that you think you should do it wont be any fun!
And afterall 2.75 years is a looong time and you could be better by then so don't let your that stop you putting things you want to do. After all just because you are ill it doesn't and shouldn't change who you are.

What about going in a swimming pool?
    Finding a hobby?
writing a review of a new release film and publishing it online on blogs and forums etc

Sounds like you could have a lot of fun!

  2. Both times I've done lists I've tried to do a mixture of completely crazy things, habits I want to get into or break, things I've wanted to try or do but never got round to (knitting was one for me) travel and very realistic but useful things. I think personally that it doesn;t matter if you don't complete all the goals or even if going in you know it's unlikely you'll manage them (I had give blood on my first list and I wasn't eligible when I wrote it and I'm still not now due to meds but I still declared it as something I wanted to do if I could)

  3. Thanks both of you :) Will do some more thinking. I just worry that I'll be disappointed and frustrated if I end up with too many things on my list that are unachievable. I need some more crazy things on there though :P And Jessica, I've got the first 2 of your suggestions on my list already :)

  4. is there a local tourist spot or museaum or some such you've never been to? I have one of those on my list which should be easily achievable.

Or a place in the UK you've not visited? (come to Oxford!)

  5. I'm sure there are loads of very touristy things in my city which I've never done, so will have a think there. I've already got visit Scotland on my list and visit a specific thing in Scotland. And visit the Isles of Scilly because I've got family there. I might add something about visiting a certain number of UK cities I've not visited before. I think my list might end up too long now! :P

  6. What about starting to do a new hobby like collecting something everytime you go to a new place (what about a postcard?) & maybe sticking that into a scrabook & just write where you went & when?

I've tried that, managed to do it a few times during the summer.

  7. I've tried that before Emma, but never stuck with it, lol :P I am determined to do the Photo 365 project though which is where you take a photo every day for a whole year.

  8. Meet up with meeeee! :D And I'm sure there's lots of other AYMErs who you'd like to meet up with, or other people from the transplant community. How about taking part in the next Transplant Games (not sure when it is)? I know that's really difficult because you don't know what you're going to be like ME-wise, but I think you've got to have some targets which depend on health. You've probably thought of these ideas already though.

Project 365 sounds great - I really want to do that sometime, love people on Facebook who keep up with theirs.

Just replying to your Facebook PM! I'll keep thinking of ideas. :) Rosie xx

  9. Hehe, meeting you was about the 3rd thing to go on my list Rosie! That's something I really really really want to do! :D Another goal on my list is to become the AYME regional contact for my area and to organise my own meet-up :)

I'm not sure about taking part in the next British Transplant Games because although I wasn't well at the last one me and my mum didn't like the way it was organised and to be honest I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it even if I was well.

I've got lots of targets which will depend on my health improving, such as lots of travelling abroad, getting a job etc.

I think Project 365 should be fun, but it'll definitely be a challenge. I'm up for it though :D

I'm getting there with my 101 in 1001 list but still need a few more ideas. When I've finished I'll post the whole list up :)

  10. I love this idea and noticed that someone mentioned it on fbk today. I have a post transplant list that I compiled two years ago and got quite upset as my delayed recovery and subsequent complications means most of them are totally unrealisitc. I've found it hard to re set new goals other than the ones I previously set so this seems like a fun way to start afresh! I have more or less achieved many of them now as I'm a crammer...but would love to set some too..if ok maybe I can msn u and we can share some ideas and stuff?!?! Sounds like ur well on ur way!! 11. Hugs Lou. It'd be great if you gave it a go too :) Yeah I'd definitely be up for a chat with you about it. I'm not on MSN much at the mo, but if you send me a PM on Facebook and let me know when you'll be on MSN, I'll try to join you.

I've got between 80 and 90 potential ideas so far. Am waiting for Holly to post her list up on her blog and then I can see if any of her ideas inspire me.

  12. Hi Molly,

I decided to do the 101 in 1001 after reading Emma's blog. I have ME as well as a few other medical probs so put on he list some thngs I knew I could definately achieve and some things that I may be able to achieve depending on my health.

I've found that doing it has actually given me a focus and something to aim for. One of the things I put on the list was to walk to my nearet bus stop. This will take a while to acheive so have broken it ito smaller manageable goals like walk to the end of the path, then the end of the road.

I'm glad you find AYME helpful. I was actually one of the founding members about fifteen or so years ago. It really helped me and lead to other things like becomng involved with Postpals nd finding various blogs such as yours.

Sorry if I have waffled a bit,

    Take Care

  13. Thanks for leaving a comment Kate. It's lovely to hear from another ME sufferer. Sorry that you've had it for so long though. Do you keep a blog?

I think 101 in 1001 should definitely help me to have a focus, my life isn't really going anywhere at the moment and I want to start to do something a bit productive. I'm going to try to make my list a mixture of things I will definitely be able to acheive if my health doesn't improve and some that are health dependent, but I'm not sure about how to get the balance right. Good luck with your list.

Yeah I find AYME great for friendship and support. Glad it helped you so much too :)

    Take care,
